Imagine a 23-year-old who had secured a one-way ticket to Bangkok, a backpack filled with a handful of possessions, and $500 in her pocket. No plan. No back-up plan. Only an insatiable thirst for more - more experiences, more learning, more life. Little did I know that this leap of faith onto the plane would take me to the intersection of technology, ethics, and travel.
I slept in hostels with the hackers, discussed and argued philosophical theories with nomads in the tiny cafés of Chiang Mai, and taught myself to code under one flickering light bulb in a café in Guatemala. Each stamp in my passport was a lesson; each border crossing, a metaphor for a barrier I had successfully broken. Then AI found me.
It started with a simple late-night chat in a coworking space in Berlin. During a discussion with a coder friend about "how ethics is the last thing on the mind of Silicon Valley," and I can recall feeling that terrible feeling of truth that ignited my entire being at that moment. What if I turned my desire for adventure into a mission to tame the wild west of artificial intelligence?

Fast forward to today. Mila Harper, Ethical AI Consultant. My company offers consulting advice to Fortune 500, and small startups alike on how to build AI that doesn't exploit, manipulate, or erase humanity. Here's the twist - it's all done from my laptop - in between surfing in Bali, trekking the Andes in Peru, or losing myself in the neon city of Tokyo.
But it hasn't been all sunsets, surfing and success. I have been scammed by "investors", ghosted by clients, and I recall sitting in an airport bathroom once crying due to a deal that had fallen apart. But every low moment turned into fuel and now I'm not just someone's AI consultant I'm rewriting a narrative.
